The assistant pastor of an Attleboro church who is also the principal of an affiliated school has been charged with sexually abusing a student starting when she was a seventh-grader.

The Rev. Jeffrey Nichols of Grace Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Christian Academy was ordered held on $25,000 bail after not guilty pleas to charges including aggravated indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 were entered on his behalf Tuesday.

Prosecutors say he molested a seventh-grade student beginning in 2008 when she was 13 and continued until last June.

A lawsuit filed in Minnesota charges The Diocese of Crookston (Minn), the Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts and the Servants of the Paraclete group with a dozen counts of nuisance and negligence in their handling of former Priest James Porter.

Porter admitted or was linked to the abuse of more than 100 young boys and girls, dating back to the 1950’s. This lawsuit involves the case of a unnamed Minnesota woman, now in her 50’s, who alleges that Porter, who died in 2005, molested her while he was a priest at St. Phillips parish in Bemidji in 1969 and 1970.

“And where she and her family had come to trust this very cunning, but very dangerous wolf in shepherd’s clothing, Father James Porter,” said Attorney Jeff Anderson.

The Lawrence Eagle Tribune reported on the following: Holding a sign that read: “Sexual Abuse of little boys and girls is soul murder,” Bassam George Haddad stood outside St. Basil Seminary in a public demonstration against a priest he alleges sexually abused him as a teenager.

Haddad, 39, of Methuen, said he was molested by the Rev. Ross S. Frey at St. Joseph Parish in Lawrence between 1986 to 1991.

“It’s been tough. He ruined my life,” said Haddad, who said he was always angry and picked fights for no reason. He kept the abuse secret from his mother and his wife of 11 years until recently.

The Diocese of Worcester has asked the Vatican to defrock the Rev. Lowe B. Dongor, the Roman Catholic priest charged in September with possessing child pornography and stealing from his parish in Fitchburg, reports the Telegram and Gazette.

Church and law enforcement officials believe Rev. Dongor has fled the country and may have returned to his native homeland of the Philippines. A default warrant was issued for Rev. Dongor after the clergyman failed to show up for an Oct. 25, 2011 court hearing.

Chancery officials said they are seeking to oust Rev. Dongor in the wake of a “clarification” last spring by church officials in Rome that possession of child pornography is grounds for removal from the priesthood.

Pinal County (Arizona) Sheriff Paul Babeu was the victim of sexual assault as a young boy in Massachusetts, an ongoing incident that forever changed the outspoken critic of Arizona’s immigration policies, he told MyFoxPhoenix.com.

“I was a victim of sexual assault when I was a young boy, actually by a priest back in Massachusetts,” Babeu told the website. “That was something that had a dramatic impact on me and my life.”

Babeu said the abuse began at age 11 and continued for several years. He reported the abuse, which altered his views of people in positions of power.
